Italy-based Irplast Named “Company of the Year” for Integrated ESG Finance at Sustainability Awards 2025 (October, 2025)

TOPPAN Group company Irplast S.p.A. (Irplast) was named “Company of the Year” for Integrated ESG Finance at the Italian Sustainability Awards 2025, held on October 14, 2025.

The awards, held for the fifth time and promoted by organizations including Kon Group1, ELITE2, Azimut3 and Politecnico4 recognize Italian companies that address the issue of climate change and contribute to enhancing the country’s competitiveness through innovation.

1. Kon Group is a business consultancy focused primarily on Italian family-run small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs).
2. ELITE is a European network of private SMEs launched in 2012 by Borsa Italiana, the Italian stock exchange, and now part of Euronext Group
3. Azimut is an independent, global group in the asset management, wealth management, investment banking and fintech space, serving private and corporate clients
4. Politecnico di Milano is one of the world’s leading universities in science, technology, engineering, and design. The alliance with the industrial world allows the university to follow the vocation of the territories in which it operates and to be a stimulus for their development.

This award recognizes that Irplast’s significant investments in sustainability have driven a profound transformation of its business processes and models and that its strategic partnerships with customers and suppliers aimed at developing complementary expertise have also created a distinctive growth factor.

Irplast uses simultaneous biaxial orientation technology to manufacture high-performance BOPP films with superior durability and heat resistance. Because heat shrinkage is small and dimensions are stable, BOPP films contribute to reduction in plastic consumption by not only reducing barrier degradation but also enabling reduction of thickness (down-gauging). Irplast has continued to invest in reducing BOPP film weight and thickness, developing fully recyclable solutions and reusing production waste. An investment of over €60 million in Irplast’s Atessa plant attests to the company’s shift away from the commodity segment to high value-added specialty products.

With Irplast joining the TOPPAN Group in 2025, it has become possible to integrate its high-performance BOPP film manufacturing expertise with the TOPPAN Group’s wide-range of technologies and solutions to drive global expansion.

Fausto Cosi, Chief Executive Officer of Irplast, has been included in Forbes Italia’s list of the “Top 100 Managers of the Year.” He was selected in recognition of his outstanding leadership and strategic vision.

Driven by the belief that “sustainability is a true business driver,” Irplast will continue to proactively invest in films made from recycled and non-fossil feedstocks, and has set an ambitious goal of achieving production fully based on non-fossil materials by 2030.
