Background and Aims
Led by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank, and African Union Commission (AUC), TICAD is an international conference focused on African development.
Positioning Africa as a future growth market, the TOPPAN Group has accelerated a multifaceted business expansion since 2021, engaging in sectors such as government ID solutions, smart cards, digital government, digital BPO, smart agriculture, and smart cities. Since acquiring a South African systems integrator in 2021, the TOPPAN Group has made a series of investments to establish a robust foundation for the security business, including passports, national IDs, election solutions, and payment cards in more than 38 countries. These activities align with Target 16.9 of the Sustainable Development Goals—“provide legal identity for all”—and drive digital transformation and financial inclusion in Africa.
Against this backdrop, and based on the concept of partnership with Africa advocated by the Japanese government, the TOPPAN Group aims to support TICAD’s objectives by harnessing digital technologies to facilitate more accessible and efficient public administration as a “partner in creating the future with Africa.”
