Officers Participate in Training on Universal Manners (August 2024)

Promoting Understanding of Diversity: 66 Officers Earn Level 3 Universal Manners Certification

The TOPPAN Group has positioned Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) as a critical pillar of its management strategy, aiming to further evolve as a corporation that creates social value. To deepen essential understanding and foster behavioral change and cultural transformation, D&I seminars have been held for officers since fiscal 2021, with this being the sixth session.

In this latest initiative, the focus was on specific D&I-related issues, providing a practical opportunity to acquire skills that support the advancement of D&I. On August 29, the first half of this year’s program featured a “Universal Manners Training” session. Sixty-six directors, executive officers, and audit & supervisory board members from the TOPPAN Group*1 successfully obtained level 3 Universal Manners Certification.*2

Training Highlights

At the start of the session, TOPPAN Holdings President & CEO Hideharu Maro emphasized the importance of incorporating the perspective of “reasonable accommodation” into TOPPAN Group workplaces and the solutions provided to society, especially in light of Japan’s revised Act on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities, effective April 2024. He further highlighted the need for officers to enhance their sensitivity to societal diversity and accelerate the advancement of D&I as a core management strategy.

Participants found the training to be meaningful, offering concrete and practical insights. Many remarked on gaining awareness of “unconscious bias” and deepening their understanding of the “social model of disability.” These learnings are expected to not only enhance workplace communication but also significantly contribute to advancing the TOPPAN Group’s D&I-focused management.
