Tokyo – January 27, 2026 – TOPPAN Digital Inc. (TOPPAN Digital), a TOPPAN Group company and wholly owned subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings Inc. (TYO: 7911), will take part in Paris Packaging Week 2026, one of Europe’s leading international luxury packaging events, which will be held on February 5 and 6.
TOPPAN Digital will participate in the PLD area, presenting digital solutions focused on the challenges faced by the luxury beverage, fragrance, and beauty industries.
TOPPAN Digital has built up a strong track record in utilizing secure NFC tags and ID authentication platforms to offer IoT solutions to the European luxury sector. At Paris Packaging Week, TOPPAN Digital will showcase solutions to challenges such as a lack of visibility across supply chains, the damage caused by imitation goods, and the need to respond to rapidly shifting trends, all of which are areas of particular concern for the luxury beverage, fragrance, and beauty sectors. Offerings on show will include NFC tags with opening detection and authenticity verification functions, a platform that facilitates measures such as traceability management, and solutions that boost customer engagement.
In the Talks area, Gregoire Fremiot, CEO of TOPPAN Group ID authentication platform provider Selinko, will take to the stage with representatives from luxury beauty groups for a panel discussion on how connected packaging can be leveraged to scale up AI and data utilization. Diverse sectors are pushing forward with the introduction of AI technology, but the keys to effective utilization in streamlining business processes will be optimal data gathering and integration. NFC tags with unique identifiers, meanwhile, facilitate data collection across the entire product life cycle, meaning that they play a vital role in the application and use of AI technologies. The panel discussion will explore the expanding potential of digital solutions when AI is employed in conjunction with packages incorporating NFC.
Background and Objectives
Products such as luxury wines and spirits enjoy enduring value, but their premium status means they are increasingly the target of illicit practices, such as counterfeit distribution and fraudulent refilling. Brands therefore need to adopt measures that protect product quality and the integrity of the brand from the risks of imitation goods. Gray market diversion that bypasses legitimate distribution channels also presents a significant problem, creating a compelling industry-wide need for systems that enable stringent management at the individual item level, treating each product as a unique entity.
TOPPAN Digital’s end-to-end solutions combine secure NFC tags and ID authentication platforms to address these multifaceted challenges. NFC tags with an opening detection function prevent fraudulent refilling, while ID authentication provides consumers with the reassurance of being able to confirm with their smartphone that a product is genuine.
Main Solutions on Show
1) NFC solutions with opening detection function for luxury beverages and fragrances
2) Gray market detection and customer engagement based on an ID authentication platform
3) Other NFC tags for luxury products and packaging
・Tag with LEDs
When these tags are attached to products or containers, the LEDs light up in response to a smartphone being held up to the tag. This produces a unique effect while also enabling differentiation from other brands.
・On-metal NFC tag
This tag maintains good communication performance even when attached to metal containers.
・Super mini-sized NFC tags
Mini-sized NFC tags with diameters ranging from 7 mm to 10 mm that can be attached seamlessly to compact containers for beauty products such as lipstick and mascara.
・Tags for apparel
TOPPAN Digital will also present RFID tags that have the durability to withstand the laundry process, making them ideal for integration into apparel products.
TOPPAN Group ID authentication solutions marry trust with quality to support brands as they respond to new regulatory requirements such as the introduction of digital product passports.
